October 25, 1897 ~ Monday

Mon Oct 25th I drove to the office this morning. Emma & Owen


purpose starting for Vernal tomorrow evening, Owen to attend the Uintah
Stake Conference & Emma to visit with her daughter & children. I had a letter
written to B[isho]p. Horsley ^of Price^ to arrange train & conveyance for them & Bro S. B Young from
Price to the Wells.

Salt Lake City . Grand Pacific Hotel Near O.S.L. Depot. President Wilford Woodruff, Honored & Reverend Sir, A few weeks ago I was at Lee's Ferry & there, in conversation with Mr Emett, learned that he was about to Either write or see you in regard to certain improvements needed there to make the property as useful as it should be. I then determned I would write to you on my return to my Pasadena home, in regard to the matter, but severe sickness prevented. Now I am on my way East, & being here for a day or two take this first opportunity of giving Expression to my thoughts in regard to Lee's Ferry. President Wilford Woodruff, My fellow propagandist: I can see, that the Pater, will not Halo the physical elements without attraction: but the most prosey politeness, aught to suggest a decorous answer, to a disciple of the great Christos. If I were depending on man, for the truth of Gospel, this might be a stumbling- block: but I am not subordinate to mortal man, for this light. The foundation of the Church is here, and it is here to stay: this I know, and the angel can testify to my sta- tement. I am reconcieled to my recondite guide I know whotever place He assigns me; it will be for my Spiritual good.
