Letter from Thomas Hyrum Humphreys, 11 November 1897
Logan, Utah, President Wilford Woodruff. Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brother: I have, as requested, made arrangements to leave Salt Lake City March 17 1898 for a mission to the Southern States; and feel in so doing, that if my labors will render any assistance to the great cause of truth, that I am ready and under obligation to my Maker and to my fellow-men to put into action every talent with which I have been endowed, to establish the Everlasting Gospel here upon the earth. I have the honor to remain Your brother in the Gospel T. H. Humpherys Bishop Wm West
Letter from John T. Roberts, 11 November 1897
Prest. Woodruff Dear Brother; Yours of the 9th to hand notifying me of the call as a Missionary to Samoa I kindly accept the same and felt happy to be one of the chosen ones that the Lord has seen fit to call to promulgate the Gospel to those that are in darkness. I should like to be set apart a few days previous to that appointed for my departure as I should like to visit some of the Saints and Elders in Calafornia before I set sail. Hoping this will be satisfact- ory, I remain Yours Truly and Bro. in the Gospel John T. Roberts
