Volunteer Spotlight: Jessica Cleaver Blad

by Maddie Christensen

Meet Jessica Cleaver Blad, one of the Wilford Woodruff Papers Foundation’s newest volunteers. Jessica is taking on a unique role as an illustration intern and will be working on illustrations for a new children’s e-book about Wilford Woodruff.

Jessica discovered the Project through her sister, Caralyn, who was a public relations intern for the Foundation. She became excited while in her religion class one day when the professor mentioned how God promised Wilford Woodruff that his journal would be a great tool in bringing future generations closer to Christ. She says, “I knew then that I really wanted to be involved.”

Jessica is currently attending BYU–Idaho, studying Illustration-Publishing. She has always loved the arts, and she plans to write, illustrate, and publish children’s books in the future. After serving a full-time Spanish-speaking mission in Florida, she hopes to incorporate Spanish in some of her future children’s books.

Jessica hopes to grow in her testimony and talents while working on the Project. She says, “I am hoping to further grow my testimony of the power of priesthood and the importance of authority figures in the Church. I am also excited to discover joy in illustrating the miracles that blessed the lives of the pioneers.”
