Transcript
Wilford Woodruff's search for light and truth began long before he was introduced to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. While seeking to follow Christ’s example and still remain true to the teachings of the early apostles, he wrote the following in his journal:
“I Searched the bible and prayed earnestly to know what duties I should perform in order to be saved…I could not see the organization with any sect on earth that was manifest in the days of the prophets and Christ and the Apostles, yet, I could see that Baptism by immersion was a commandment of God… George Phippen baptized myself & my Brother Asahel and we went our way rejoicing thinking we had done the will of God.”
As an earnest seeker, Wilford Woodruff approached Baptist Minister Georgh Phippen asking to be baptized. However, he explained that he had no intentions of joining the baptist church. Wilford’s actions displayed his willingness to do what he thought was right, even if it defied the social norms surrounding him.
When is a time you were willing to stand alone for what you believed?
