On October 16, 1852, Wilford Woodruff recorded a day he spent with future missionaries. He wrote,

“This was an interesting day. I spent the whole day teaching 45 Elders that were going on Foreign Missions to China, Australia, Siam, Hindustan, and the Isles of the Sea. The spirit and power of God rested upon us in a great degree. The Heavens was opened unto us & our minds were filled with visions, Revelations, and Prophesy. We sealed great blessings upon their heads as we were moved upon by the Holy Ghost & we told them things that would befall them by sea & by land. They will do a great work & gather many saints & much wealth to Zion."
