Asa Cossett (Cossitt) Sr. (1754-1838) was born 22 Mar. 1754 in Simsbury, Hartford Co., Connecticut, British Colonial America. He was the son of Rene Cossit and Phoebe Hillyer and a distant relative of Azuba Hart, Wilford Woodruff’s step-mother. He married Mary Cole on 30 Nov. 1777 in Claremont, Sullivan Co., New Hampshire. He died 31 Jan. 1838 and was buried in Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut. His proxy temple ordinance work was initiated by Wilford Woodruff on 1 Jun. 1870.
